YiJi Biology, established in 2024 and headquartered in Shanghai, is a pioneering contract research organization (CRO) focused on the development of high-fidelity feline disease models for translational research and therapeutic innovation. As one of the first companies in China to specialize in cat models, we support global pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners with preclinical solutions tailored to companion animal health.
Through our strategic collaboration with the Shanghai Veterinary Research Institute (CAAS), we have built one of China’s most advanced experimental platforms for feline model development. Our services span the full R&D continuum—from model design and validation to in vivo studies, regulatory data generation, and product registration support.
Kai Liu, MSc
Founder & CEO
Kai is a trained veterinarian and animal science expert with over a decade of experience in laboratory animal research, veterinary drug development, and facility operations. Before founding YiJi Biology, he served as the Regional Technical Director for East China at Charles River’s China subsidiaries, where he oversaw the operations of major facilities in Shanghai, Zhangjiang, and Suzhou.
Kai holds a Master’s degree in Zoology from Yangzhou University College of Veterinary Medicine and is a nationally licensed veterinarian. He has deep expertise in animal model design, vivarium management, and preclinical study execution, along with hands-on experience in feline breeding, husbandry, and clinical care. His past responsibilities also included serving as IACUC secretary, veterinarian, and scientific member since 2019, reflecting his commitment to the highest standards of animal ethics and welfare.
Today, he continues to lead YiJi Biology in building world-class capabilities in feline disease modeling—combining scientific rigor with practical, scalable innovation.
